  Before & After School Care

School-Age Programs (SAP)
School-age care (SAP) programs are offered for children (ages 5-12 years) before and after school, during holidays, and summer vacations. The SAP programs complement, rather than duplicate, the school day. Emphasis is placed on SAP programs which meet community needs, reinforce family values, and promote the cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development of children.  This area of care is currently expanding with new initiatives being implemented at the Service level to more fully meet this need. SAP programs are also required to meet national accreditation. Currently the accrediting body is the National After School Association ( NAA ).

All are offered choices daily in activities such as art, science, dramatic arts, quiet activities/homework, computers, construction, outside/large motor skills and snack as a choice. The preteens are offered self-conatined activities such as, arts and crafts, homework/quiet activities, science, construction, computers and loud games. Each activitiy area maintains a weekly lesson plan with activities geared toward specific activities.

The SAP also offers specialty classes (i.e. stamping, scrapbook making, cheerleading etc.), sports activities, special events (i.e. ice cream socials, talent shows, guest speakers), and field trips. The SAP is affiliated with the Boys and Girls Clubs of America (B&GCA) and local 4-H chapters. A variety of clubs are offered throughout the year using B&GCA and 4-H as a basis for programming.
